Since childhood, I couldn’t understand why multiplying a whole number by zero gives zero. I think it should result in that very whole number. Mathematicians explain it by saying that 0 × 5 = 0 because zero is taken five times… and 5 × 0 = 0, somehow, because 5 is taken zero times, and here for some reason the 5 doesn’t remain, but again a 0 appears as the result… This is what I don’t understand. I think mathematics needs a new branch, where 5 × 0 = 5, not 0. It seems to me that a five taken zero times remains a five, not zero. I also think this branch should be applied to all subsequent calculations, sort of splitting mathematics into 5 × 0 = 5 and 0 × 5 = 0. It also seems to me that mathematics should be split into two branches: 5 × 0 = 5 and 0 × 5 = 0, thereby violating the fundamental mathematical rule of commutativity – Changing the order of the factors does not change the product
C детства не могла понять, почему если целое число умножить на ноль, то получается ноль? Я думаю, что должно получиться это же умножаемое число. В школе мне это объяснили тем, что 0х5=0 потому что ноль взяли пять раз.. а 5х0=0 это почему-то потому, что 5 взяли 0 раз и почему-то не осталось 5, а появился 0 в результате… вот это вот мне не ясно, я думаю, что в математике нужна новая ветка, в которой 5х0=5 а не 0. Мне кажется, что пятерка, которую взяли 0 раз, останется пятеркой, а не нулем. Мне также кажется, что нужно раздвоить математику на 5х0=5 и 0х5=0 и сделать исключение из фундаментального математического правила “От перемены мест слагаемых сумма не меняется”.
